Honua Kai Resort

Honua Kai Resort & Spa Maui Review (Spring Break 2026) – Room 112 Experience

If you’re looking for a family-friendly resort in Kaanapali, Maui, our stay at Honua Kai Resort & Spa during Spring Break 2026 (Easter week) was one of our favorite trips we’ve taken. After watching our vlog above, here’s a full breakdown of what it’s actually like staying here—specifically in Room 112, which ended up being an ideal setup for our family of five.

This was shot with my drone from the beach in front of Honua Kai.

Why We Loved Honua Kai Resort in Kaanapali

Honua Kai is one of the best beachfront resorts in Maui for families, and it really hits that sweet spot between a luxury hotel and a condo-style vacation rental.

  • Direct Kaanapali Beach access

  • Multiple pools, hot tubs, and a waterslide area

  • On-site dining at Duke’s Beach House

  • Walkable beachfront path with shops, food, and activities

Being there during Easter week in April added a fun energy—great weather, lively atmosphere, but still relaxed enough to feel like a true vacation.

Easter service at the Hyatt (15 minute drive).

Room 112 at Honua Kai – Perfect Layout for a Family of 5

We stayed in Room 112 (booked through KBM Rentals Maui), and the layout worked incredibly well for our family.

Sleeping Setup:

  • Master bedroom: My wife and I stayed here—comfortable bed and a spacious, well-designed bathroom

  • Second bedroom: Our two daughters shared the smaller room (tight but totally workable)

  • Living room: Our son slept on the pull-out couch, which gave him his own space without feeling cramped

This is one of the biggest advantages of staying at Honua Kai vs a traditional hotel—you get space to spread out.

Full Kitchen + Living Space = Game Changer

The full kitchen in Room 112 was a huge win.

  • Full-size fridge, stove, and microwave

  • Plenty of counter space

  • Ideal for quick breakfasts, snacks, and keeping food costs down

For a family of five, this made mornings way easier before heading out to the pool or beach.

Location of Room 112 (Underrated Advantage)

One of the best parts of this specific room was how convenient the location was within the resort.

  • Right next to the fitness center

  • Easy access to the hotel store and coffee shop

  • About a 2-minute walk to the main pool area

  • Short, easy walk to the beach

You’re close to everything without being in the loudest, busiest part of the resort.

On site BBQ and a local catch.

Duke’s Beach House – 4-Minute Walk (We Went Twice)

One of the highlights of staying at Honua Kai is having Duke’s Beach House right on property.

  • About a 4-minute walk from Room 112

  • Great for both casual meals and nicer dinners

  • Classic Maui beachfront dining vibe

We liked it so much, we went twice during our stay—which says a lot considering how many food options there are in Maui.

Walkable Food, Coffee, and Local Markets

Another huge perk of this location is how much is within walking distance.

  • 10-minute walk to local food trucks and coffee spots

  • The Kaanapali Beach Walk runs right in front of the resort

  • On Wednesdays and Saturdays, there’s a pop-up farmers market and craft fair right along the path

This made it really easy to mix in local food and experiences without needing to drive everywhere.

Close to Whalers Village (Shopping + Dining Hub)

If you want a bigger shopping and restaurant scene:

  • ~10-minute drive to Whalers Village

It’s an easy trip for:

  • Shopping

  • More dining options

  • Ice cream stops for the kids (mandatory)

Pools, Beach, and Overall Resort Experience

Honua Kai is known for its pool system, and it definitely delivers.

  • Multiple pools for different vibes (family-friendly + more relaxed)

  • Hot tubs throughout

  • Easy access to the beach just steps away

We spent most of our time bouncing between the pool and the ocean—which is exactly what you want in a Maui vacation.

Final Thoughts – Is Honua Kai Worth It for Families?

Short answer: 100% yes.

Between the space of the condo, the location in Kaanapali, and the family-friendly amenities, Honua Kai Resort & Spa is one of the best places to stay in Maui if you’re traveling with kids.

Room 112 specifically stood out because of:

  • Its super convenient location

  • Functional layout for a family of five

  • Easy access to everything on property

Add in the fact that we were there during Spring Break and Easter, and it still never felt overwhelming—that’s a huge win.

Who This Is Perfect For

This setup is ideal if you’re:

  • Traveling to Maui with kids

  • Wanting more space than a hotel room

  • Looking for a Kaanapali beachfront resort

  • Interested in a mix of resort amenities + local walkable food options

If you’re planning a trip to Maui and considering Honua Kai, hopefully this gives you a clear picture of what to expect—and definitely check out the vlog above to see it all in action.
