Refilwe Community Project

In November of 2016, I got to go to South Africa (for 2 days…talk about a whirlwind trip) to film for an amazing nonprofit called Refilwe Community Project. Located ~40km from Johannesburg, Refilwe works with orphans, families, women and children to provide education, meals, and housing.

The first video we created was to promote the orphanage at Refilwe. The nonprofit relies solely on donor funding, which makes promotion and eduction so important.

The second video we created (below) was filmed in the neighboring Joe Slovo community. Close to 1500 people live in Joe Slovo, an informal settlement, and poverty runs rampant. Refilwe is working to provide a better life for their neighbors through education and empowerment. We spent a day with a family in Joe Slovo, in an effort to tell their story.

Words like “nice” and “kind” get thrown around a lot when describing folks and it’s easy to see why; there are a lot of nice people in this world. That being said, I think I can honestly say that Adam and Sunee are two of the nicest people we’ve ever worked with. They just exude kindness. Adam is a former Video Production student of mine and we have spent bunch of time together shooting weddings over the years. I always wondered about the girl he would end up with, because she would have to be pretty special to get a dude like him and he found his perfect match in Sunee. With San Francisco’s Marin Headlands providing the backdrop, the Hillyer’s began the next chapter in the love story and we were lucky to be a part of it.

MUTEMATH

I am finally getting around to blogging a really fun shoot that we did at the end of 2015. I have listened to MUTEMATH for a decade and had the opportunity to film one of their San Francisco shows and produce a series of promo videos and a mini documentary for them. The band is about to kick-off their US tour. If they are coming to a town near you, you should go see them. If they aren’t coming to a town near you, you should go to a town that is not near you. Hope we can work with these awesome fellows again!

We had the chance to work with one of our favorite non-profits again, at the beginning of this year. Because Justice Matters works with women and children in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. They are doing amazing things to better their community. Check out their website to find out ways you can contribute to positive change in the world’s greatest city.

We teamed up with Monvera and Rosa d’Oro to create this video-our third in the “Beautiful Bottle” Series. Here is what Monvera had to say about the video:

For this installment of Monvera’s Beautiful Bottle, we are excited to feature an old-world-meets-new-technology wine collection from Rosa d’Oro Vineyards.

Designed by Kerri Green Design, the goal of this elaborately illustrated campaign of labels was to reflect history and grandeur of the ancient mosaics of Constantinople in 400 AD. The general idea is to bring Old World Italian grapes and winemaking with New World packaging technology in a way that respects both the Old Tradition and the winemakers location in warm-climate Northern California.
